Get what your friends use.

My personal preference for gaming has always been Windows, because of 
the superior performance and because I can't stand console controllers. 
But a decent gaming rig will easily set you back €2000.

On the other hand, that amount of processing power and memory could also 
be employed for other computational-intensive tasks such as video and 
audio processing.
