Walking in the Chicago summer or winter gets really unpleasant after
awhile, and while you can theoretically get anywhere with a
combination of train and bus, the buses are nowhere near as
timely.

The subway in NYC will get you within two or three city
blocks of almost anywhere.  It's fanfuckingtastic.
