Yes, exactly. 

Intermittent operation is a sign that either termination isn’t set up properly, or you’ve got a weak SCSI cable in the chain.

FWIW, I have multiple A-samplers (A3K/A5K) on my SCSI chain as well as a RASCSI and a laptop (I’m doing Disky development again) and they work very smoothly.  But it did require that I get high quality SCSI cables and check the termination and ID settings multiple times.
