While audacity is a get tool, it doesn't give you the functionality needed to just press there edit button in Live and returning to your project by saving. Audacity saves an audacity project file, not a sound file (wav or aif). 

I find the bare sample editors more convenient for that, for this reason. 

But audacity is awesome because it's a full featured hard disk recorder, the only throng missing from it is real time effects.
