Things I've tried:
* Switching MIDI cables in use with current gear without issues
* Switching MIDI cables to unused brand new cables
* Removing my Roland A-880 MIDI patchbay from the equation
* Switching to a Midisport 2x2 instead of my Scarlett 2i4
* Using a Mac instead of the PC (with both USB interfaces)
* Putting all the Volca boxes on battery power rather than DC.
with absolutely zero differences in behavior.
I'm a (reformed) sysadmin damnit, troubleshooting is all I know how to do :)
