Camera recommendations

For my brother’s graduation we’re gonna go on a 3-week trip to Vietnam. Exciting :) leaving Thursday, so really soon. Of course, I wanna shoot some pictures.

For day to day use I use my iPhone 6. Of course I’m bring it, but even though it’s pretty nice for its small size it’s not a real camera ;) I also have my trusty Nikon D40 with a few nice lenses, so my plan was to bring that one. It’s quite heavy though, and the idea is to travel as light as possible. So perhaps there’s a better idea.

Compact camera’s seem pointless (iPhones being omnipresent et all), but perhaps there have been some developments that make getting a compact or semi-SLR worth it?
