Korg Electribe

Did the EMX have this problem too, I don’t recall it? Maybe I don’t remember that well. Also all the people on the korg forums have been bitching about this on the new machines and saying that the old machine did not have the issue. I dunno.

Everything I’m going to say is based on research only, I don’t get my sampler till Tues.

Basically with the new ones there were bigger glitch issues at launch which were fixed in an update. Now there is a second update that is coming this summer that should supposedly fix more issues. The issue as it stands now is in certain cases if you change patterns the release/effects tails of your sounds do not carry over. This can sound abrupt. The problem supposedly is the DSP can not handle this, since it would involve multiple effects proccessing. There are work arounds, if you have the same type of effects and or sounds on the same pads in multiple patterns etc… the tails will carry over fine. The reason I think the issue shows up a lot to people is there is only one reverb on the machine and it is on the master effect. If your next pattern doesn’t have reverb on the master your tail will cut off. If they both have it it will be fine. Supposedly this tail issue is going to be fixed in the next update, but most normal people seem fine with it and just seeing it a limitation of the machine.

Another thing you have to be careful with is how you build your patterns, the machine has 16 parts but most people are not able to have all 16 parts going without get dropped notes. It’s only frustrating for people in that you have no idea how much dsp you are using and when you are going to run out.

Finally I was a little disappointed, to learn some news on the ableton export feature. This is for the ES2, don’t know if it applies to the sampler. Looks like it exports all the audio in mono and any panning you have in your project do not carry over. Also I don’t think the master effect is included in any of the audio since it’s one effects that is bussed. Finally, this one is unavoidable really, in the 4 bar loops that it exports you will not have the tails of your sounds at the end of the 4th bar appear in the beginning of the first bar. The only way, obviously, to do that would be to record a second 4 bar loop and edit accordingly, but I don’t think you can have the machine export the 4 bars twice.

Again I don’t have one yet so take what I say with a grain of salt.

At the end of the day this is a budget machine, it’s $400, it’s not a powerhouse. I think it’s probably better they pushed things past the limit then holding back. It’s a little different than past electribes in that I think it’s more focus on studio/recording that raw/live performance.

There are hundreds of oscillators to choose from and each can be edited using a filter, modulation and amp/eg. Everything is familiar which makes it great and fun to work with.
