audio monitor stands for a sit/stand desk?

So this is my current setup, with my adjustable standing desk that I adore.
I spend 90% of the time there standing, but being able to sit when I feel
like it is awesome.

The shelf at the back is an Ikea hack job, and I just picked up for free a
double monitor arm that fits both those screens.

However the arm precludes the shelf, which I'm ok with as it's turning out
to be annoying low for a bunch of my gear like the MS20 and the Mackie
mixer.

(picture is straight after cleaning up and reorganizing the studio, it's
never quite this neat normally)

The question is though, what do I do for my audio monitors?

All the desktop stands I've seen are too short and put the monitors at the
wrong height when I'm standing at the desk, and if I get floor-standing
speaker stands then it'll be really bloody annoying when I'm sitting....

I tried doubling the book stacks, but that just ends up being really
unstable and I fear for the monitors when the desk goes up and down.

I suspect that if I carve up the Ikea shelf like this:

and leave the books on them that it'll still be relatively unstable.

I'm not particularly set up for woodworking or building something, although
I could almost certainly rope a well-tooled friend in if needed. (that
sounds kinda dirty actually)

Thoughts?
