Automap

Finally back from all the work travels!
Now this is from a Cubase point of view and I've just begun to re-explore it myself.
First, any effect or instrument (VSTx) seems to present itself to automap. The VSTx also
presents and which parameters it has.
Automap seems to either use a controller map that has been pre-designed for that
instrument or it tries to guess a layout which sometimes is just weird.
You can then reassign the parameters to different controllers and set it as default. (I
you guys already said that so I'm just repeating .. ;) )
If anyone can find a good library to share these kind of maps (.automap) please let me
know. I'm sure others has made excellent setups for common VSTx.
Automap "locks" to any VSTx that you activate and tries to control it.
On the Nov.Remote controller you press "FX" for effects and "Inst." for instruments.
Now, automap just simply lists the available effects and intruments and when you use a lot
of them and with the same name, it's impossible to use that.
So from Cubase it's pretty simple since you can just browse through the different VSTi
tracks and hit the "instrument" button and automap will lock onto that activated VSTi.
(I use the Steinberg CMC Ch controller to browse tracks and open the VSTi. It can probably
be done with what I describe below and dual Nov.Remote controllers. I still have to select
any new VSTi with the mouse for now.)
So with that solved I only need to get to the effects for each tracks in a better way.
Enter Cubase's Generic Remote.
On each track in Cubase I can select insert effects for 8 different slots. I select a new
effect with the mouse but once that is done I want to get at it with the controller.
So Generic Remote can assign (MIDI) controller messages for various tasks within the
sequencer.
I made a setup that controls each effect slot for the current selected track.
Then I made a User automap and used those controller messages. (it wasn't too hard, just
fiddle with any of the controls and then select that value on the generic remote).
So for the current selected track I press "User" on the Nov.Remote and then press the
button which corresponds to the effect slot I want to control (Generic Remote takes care
of that). The effect activates and automap changes and locks on to that effect.
So I can switch between the effect slot settings (or selecting another effect slot) for
the current track and the actual VSTe effect by pressing "User" and "FX" respectively on
the RemoteZero.
Hope something makes sense and sorry for the essay! Hard to explain in writing, perhaps I
should've done a video instead.
Maybe it triggers some idea to combine and use with Live though.

My goal is to control live and then plug-ins as well - this works in the default mode if you are just using live plug-ins, but for third party you have to turn the automap button on (weird) and then deal with a disorganized layout of the parameters. If you make a custom template (this still seems to be in beta for a long time...) can you switch to them easily?
