Also, iirc, ubuntu is compiled only for the more recent ARM instruction set (still haven't mastered the names of all the various permutations), excluding it from direct installation on r-pi. I don't know what the situation is for beagleboard. There has been some politics around this, especially given the positive buzz surrounding imminent release of r-pi. Red Hat is keeping their ARM binaries back-compatible, primarily for r-pi.
