And another thing (sorry but this stuff gets my dander up)...

The Mayan sites he's looking at are around 3,000 years old.  The Balinese
ones are from the 14th century.  In other words, temporally these things
aren't even connected.  Secondly, the sites in Bali are sacred Hindu
temples.  Thus, the imagery, iconography, architecture, etc. in Bali are
transplants from India.  Certainly there are distinct Bali influences that
merge with the Indian Hindi tradition but it is an alien transplant
none-the less.  So, why doesn't the author say that the Indians and Mayans
are connected?  Two reasons spring to mind.  First, because such a
comparison clearly holds no water what-so-ever even to a non-specialist -
there are hundreds of ways to poke holes in that theory. The second and
more likely explanation is that the author is basically an uninformed hack
who can't be bothered to even get the basics of his story right.
