> So how have things developed since the last time I looked into a 56K data book in the 1990s? Jay used to be really into DSP, but he appears to have shifted his interest to small, embedded boards.

I switched to the small, embedded boards because the toolchains for DSP's are a godawful hassle of bullshit. Also, mostly only run on Windows. These days I have a VM just for such work whenever it offers it, but my general tendency is towards tools which are compatible with not just Microsoft-based operating systems.

I've always detested the separation of compiler from OS, so I made a conscientious decision a few years ago to work on platforms that can self-host, mostly. Compiler-onboard is the core of my ideology - the Mot DSP tools, and others, are just too costly in terms of investment. Much more fun to just log into the thing and type make ..
