All I heard about Doepfer (and it all comes down to hearsay) is very positive. They are a very enthusiastic company. Very open minded, with schematics online (so I guess it would be easy to prove when they steal from you -- tell Herrn Haible that? I don't even know who that is, I must admit)

Never having met Dieter Doepfer I heard some really awesome things about him and his support for customers and dealers, even late at night and on the weekend.

I think it's all backwards. People in other countries think that Behringer is a cool and quality German company with cheap and awesome gear and everyone is smashing Doepfer for bringing out copied stuff?

it's the other way around, people. When I first looked into analog modular synths in about 1995? 1997? There was Doepfer who resurrected the modular from an untimely death and made the whole thing affordable without making it cheap.

Look at their website, read the docs and all the stuff they put online asking comments from the users, etc. I think they are an awesome company with a very cool mission.
