Unity is slow, warning! It's also incomplete. If you want an Ubuntu machine for dev purposes, better go with 10.10 for now because there are a few quite broken things in 11.04 .. And remember you don't have to run the latest versions always .. Safer to stay off the bleeding edge and catch up instead, after the bugs are fixed.

Unity is really a mess, actually. Go with gnome3 if you ignore my pleas to avoid Ubuntu 11.04, at least .. It's at least a useful desktop.
