Max for Live

Hi,

is anyone into Max for Live?

As I wrote a while ago on this list, I bought an APC40 to use with Live and M4L as well as for other projects (Max/MSP).

Last year, I built a Maxpatch to use for a live soundtrack for a theater play and controlled it through the APC. It was nice to be able to make a real user-interface where buttons give you feedback (I had a few buttons switch from blinking to steady light, after I had fired those sounds, for example).

Now I am working on a piece that's in 2channel, something that lends itself to working inside Live. I started out with a few of the Max tutorials, patched them together into something bigger before I realized that I want to work in Live. I dug into the M4L examples and realized how easy it is to make little noisemachines for Live -- after overcoming my initial (and complete) confusion, it only took me a few minutes to make things sound inside Live.

Then, a few hours and days later, I realized that if you use the real Live objects (like "live.numbox"), they are immediately visible to the APC, making it possible to control things right away. As you can see from the attached screenshot, I didn't really waste much time making my patches pretty...;)

This turns out to be a great blessing and makes the APC worth it's weight in gold once more...

I am really not a programmer, but a few things are so much fun, and let me create such weird sounds that I am really enjoying to dig into M4L and Max.

If anyone is interested in sharing patches, do speak up..!

best,
Kai
