In the late 70's, the British were deprived of various government departments,
and since then, politics has been dominated by the passing of laws intended to
make it easier for companies and employees to pursue "mortgages", "holidays",
and, by implication, "death".

Such practices have been outlawed. Mortgages, holidays, and, by implication,
death, are now firmly entrenched in the British psyche, as the essential
sequence of the civilisation of the individual.
One can accept this, or, choose alternatives.
