Root? easy. Unlike most domestic routers, this thing has a wad of NAND 
memory (256MB)
Purely to save electricity, a lot of electricity, and to hackity hack.

This teeny box packs more video processing power than the old xbox/xbmc, 
yet is a whole lot smaller and less power hungry. The NSLU2/optware 
repository is ported and I'm sure hacking will continue on this little 
box for some time to come.
