speeding up older iphone 3G

In .de I'm getting a good deal by keeping my 2 year old contract that lets me use 5GB of UMTS and unlimited Edge data. With the old contract I can spread the volume over several SIM-cards, even a microSIM for the iPad -- I don't have one, but I could...;)

I use it a lot with my UMTS USB-stick though -- it's great to have internet on the train and in East Germany (where there is almost no DSL, thus almost no Wifi...)
