speeding up older iphone 3G

I managed to save money by upgrading, switching providers, and
recycling my old phone (although I did have to sign a new 24 month
contract)

New iPhone 4 16GB: £169 + £30 per month contract.
Old iPhone 3 16GB: resold for £192, stopped old £35 per month contract.

So I'm £23 + £5 per month up on the deal.
