I think the SATA standard sucks.
The connectors are too small and quality varies.
I just trouble shot a computer that was 'slowing down and pausing' only 
to hear the trouble was the SATA drive switching on and off randomly and 
infrequently. A bad, cheapo connector was supplied with the drive. This 
almost trashed the disk permanently, but thankfully I managed to repair 
it by swapping out the physically bad sectors with the simple manu tools.
