I could build a midi trigger box like this from a PIC16Fxxx + some cheap
logic serial<>parallel chips with code written in a PIC basic for easy
changes .. and for simple midi triggers, who needs C or Assembly?
That's the excuse anyway.
The most expensive parts are all the switching and hardware, e.g. if
you'd like illuminated brass buttons and proper machining on the control
surface, expect this to not be cheaper than a commercial offering by a
long shot.
This is the kind of thing that is great DIY if you are already into that
sort of thing and have invested previously, therefore have a lot of
parts already at hand and don't mind the solution being held together
with sticky fixers here and there or never completed... ;)
