Maybe you don't say that "someone puts up a *shell* to disguise their 
inner feelings/nature" in english? Is there another expression with that 
meaning?

Gammarays will at least pierce through clamshells :)

Anyway, what I'm trying to express in that line is that her inside beaty 
shows despite her outer gloomy appearance.
