it's mad isn't it?
our house is currently worth 50K more than when we bought it. this means
that my wife and I could not afford to buy it if we were looking.

Unfortunately with the housing market due to crash anytime in the next
couple of months I doubt we'd sell our house for at least 8 - 10 months
(based on experiences of neighbours). We're going to try anyway, as we do
want to move nearer to where I work, but it isn't going to be easy or
cheap. and we can't afford to buy, so we're going to rent.
