Apple Time Machine Not Filling Disk

Hi,

anyone using Apple Time Machine can confirm that it filled its backup disk?

Yesterday a regular backup run took quite some time for the preparation 
  while accessing the backup disk quite a lot.

Today I just noticed that the oldest backup now is Jan 23rd while last 
evening it was Jan 12th despite the remaining disk space on the backup 
disk is over 100GB.

Any clues (besides that Time Machine still needs to be worked on)?
