It seems like when viewing a coloured object, the brain makes a kind of
colour opposite image of it to balance it.  When the input stimuli is
removed, you see the colour opposite briefly.  Therefore, make the
correct colour choice for input stimuli such that it's brain based
negative is what you actually require.

When looking at the yellow sun briefly (not really recommended), you
then get flashes of purple where the sun was in your vision every time
you blink.
