Lyric software

Guys,

 I'm busy writing lyrics for our songs, but one of my problems is that I
want to be able to show the timing of the lyrics.

 What I'm trying to find (so far in vain) is something that will import an
MP3  and allow me to add words viewable whilst playing so I can write the
words in the correct places.
 I seem to recall you could add lyrics to MP3s, but I don't know how and
if you can preserve the timing.

 lilypond is no use because it's score based, any suggestions?
