It's bland in the sense that it looks like every other analogue synth 
from the late seventies, early eighties. He could have used, for 
instance, different knobs and switches, and painted the thing in 
International Klein Blue (Google for 'Yves Klein', and visit a museum if 
you want to see the real thing).

That said, the workmanship is great and the thing is very aesthetically 
pleasing.
