The reason there are a variety of DAWs (and other tools) out there proves that there is more than one to get something done.

In my case, nothing has really forked for me in a while. Sonar could
get the job done, but I hated working with it. Cubase did everything
but I just couldnt fall in love with it either. hardware sequencers
got me started on tracks quick, but finishing and transfering that to
the PC domain was a lot of unneccesary grunt work. Live 7 is what I
wanted. Its got the right work flow, its MIDI timing and audio
quality are now really as good as the others, and the interface works
well enough I can forgive it the few things I wish it had (microscope
event editing, step time note entry, ability to see mixer + arrange
view).
One thing that *really* helps with live (any daw really) is a BIG wide
view display. Without that, its little boxes tend to all be to small
to work with effectively.
