Question: recording live musicians / clipped audio

Very nice, but expensive.

Wouldn't there be any software solution? 
Please remember it isn't about shaping 
the signal - just preventing clipping.

It would be so cool if you could just 
add a Logic/Cubase limiter in your 
signal path...
