And this is the datasheet:

http://www.bourns.com/PDFs/ECW1J.pdf

Page 3 explains the configuration your encoders have.

Now; goto www.farnell.co.uk (for example) and do a search on the first part
of the part number. I got this:

http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/Industrial+Controls+&+Automation/Rotary+encoders/BO
URNS/ECW1D-B24-BC0024L/displayProduct.jsp?sku=1185272&_requestid=50168

So basically, what they have is exactly what you need, except the shaft is
3.2mm shorter and the button (the one you touch with your finger and that
sits atop the encoder) you are used to use on your MR rack probably won't fit
on the encoder and lastly in a leadfree version, which basically means that
you can get into problems when soldering it using ordinary soldering tools -
but it will probably work for a couple of year nonetheless:)

You might be able to track down a completely similar component to what you
are looking for, but this comes really close and it should be no hassle to
order 2 pcs from farnell afaik. If you do find it a hassle, I could order
them for you and forward them to you.

You should definitely not throw that pjece of gear in the bin for that reason
alone!
