Given that a current Pi 5 w/ 16GB is $279+ (don't know what it is in
civilized parts of the world ), the Zynthian is a good option for the price
unless you happen to have a spare Pi or Arduino laying around. Then again,
like Jay says, if that's your thing. I tend to cobble something together
quick to see if it's something I want to invest in a more refined tool
first before buying a more refined tool but that's me.

I have all kinds of boards, buttons, encoders laying around and dev is what
I do again now. Did I mention I've left teaching college Chinese history
and returned to tech after 30 years? Different story and kind of strange.

I had kind of lost track of Zynthian and I'll have to look at it more since
it's evolved a ton since I last looked at it. So many great tools and utils
available now.
