There's no way to cushion the blow.

For those who haven't heard it from other sources, Andy Tarpinian lost 
his battle against stage 4 lung cancer on Tuesday the 7th.

My thoughts go out to his wife, Brooke, their infant son, Rowan, and 
everybody else who was affected.

I was following it on Facebook, and it seemed like he had made a turn for the better.   He was even commenting on gear for the first time in a while just a little bit ago.  These things can turn very fast.

Yeah, it was a bit unexpected from the Facebook updates. Did some looking back when I saw that he had passed away, remembering out first meeting at Joost?s old apartment in 2010. A very young Andrew.

My feeling is that he didn't have enough time to pass through the stages 
of grief, given that it was only discovered in early July. Just over 
three months ago. I saw the messages, too, and really did hope that the 
treatment would take hold. But it was the sort of hope where a little 
voice in the back of your head points to the statistics.

The most upsetting for me is his little boy. He's too young to be able 
to remember his dad as time passes. He'll only have photos and videos to 
look back on. We remember Denis and Gert, as do their loved ones, but 
little Rowan wasn't given that privilege.

Hey everyone, such sad news. Some pictures from NYE 2006-2007?

Got out of touch the last years. So was shocked to hear he passed away. Besides being really good at his stuff (art / music), he was also such a calm and generous guy. Crashed on his couch in NYC a few times. Good memories. Damn guys, take care of each other.

Hello everyone,

Joost just informed me about Andy ? 

I am sad and kind of speechless about the news to be sincere.

I had the chance to be able to meet him once around 2007/2008, at this time I could finally tell him in the real world how I see/ feel about Andy Tarpinian? music which was so good (imo) ? 

As Gert, talking to him face to face after exchanging music compositions and all types of emails about our passion for music was really an experience of wisdom. 

I did not know him personally as much as some of you guys but he was in my opinion a very good soul / man, really respectful and kind.

His music was and will remain as something special to me, reflecting his soul I guess, a kind of magic, his stuff could really translate directlyto my mind.. It s not my emotion talking now but I guess he was a master of his kind, making questioning  yourself :    ? How an artist can paint with sounds and make you dream while listening music ??.  Andy was good like that (and I told him with respect!)

For a recall (Im not 100% sure tho) during couple of RPM challenges, us barians,  we were participating with only 1 song each per year while Andy was making album(s) ..and those were always a blast of work and production (imo)  ...

I am felling that It's a shame that he was living in US so far from us (Europeans) and not closer to The Netherlands so we could be able to see each other more often I guess and have all types of discussions or Music-Jams about everything and nothing.

Please keep in mind this event reminds me that he was/is not the only one in Music-bar to have such talent, even if we are all different  ;)

But still, Andy'music was always to my taste a Level up of Inspirations for Quality, Style and Work ? his compostions and phrasings were amazing (imo), the quality of his productions were just beautiful ? (You know when it fells easy to do the trick when actually it is not ?)

I hope his young child is as sensitive and talented as him and therefore will be able to grow up next to his dad with all these damn good songs that Andy produced for all those years.. 

So today, it is a sad day for me for sure cause I am really convinced ?  the world really lost a great artist recently (a real one)?

But who knows there is maybe a Music-Bar' paradise up there and we ll meet again ?.?

I reached out to Brooke to see if we could do anything for her and Rowan, and she said this:

?I want to be sure our Rowan has music mentors in his life, he is already showing interest at 16 months?

I also got an email address for Kimberley, who sang on his tracks ?When the lights flash? and ?The Fall?, so Joost: will send you the address, she?d love to get the photo?s you have, and she will forward them to Brooke as well.

I also invited Kimberley to join us on the music-bar if she wants, so lets see.

Brooke might need help with Andy?s studio full of equipment.

Any volunteers to reach out and give her a hand to sort it out?  I?m not sure what she needs, but I?m pretty sure Andy would be happy knowing that the music-bar is looking out for Rowan and Brooke in this regard.

There is a shiva (7 days of mourning) occurring for Andy, so it would be an appropriate time to reach out to his family and offer our help.

If anyone is interested and has Facebook, please reach out to her and see what can be done.  I?m sure Rowan would benefit from having someone make informed decisions on his part, vis a vis Andy?s heirloom musical instruments.
