Works really well. Apart from saving space they also make accessing the connections easier. The lower ones are reserved for stuff that you don’t need to access as often, like the Adat expansion and Midi interface.

If you plan on doing something similar, make sure you have enough space behind them. The cabinet and shelves are 40 cm while the top is 50 cm so there’s 10 cm left for cables and AC adapters. In retrospect I would probably make it another 5-10 cm.

The rails are fully extendable so the shelves go out their full length.

Everything is just standard IKEA, except for the rails. Shelves are the ordinary shelves for the cabinets, just a little bit trimmed in width to accommodate for the rails.
