Headset mics

Hi all

I just had a very similar requirement – I needed a mic for some video work. I bought a Rode Wireless Go kit plus a Rode Lavalier mic incl. TRS adapter. It’s too early for a proper judgement, but the first impression so far is pretty decent. We’re filming a short introduction video into the flute, so I record the voice with lavalier through the Rode Wireless Go straight into the video camera, whereas a second set of high quality condenser mics is installed with a bit of distance to pick up the instrument sound and record with the external video recorder that has phantom powered XLR input (Atomos Ninja Inferno). Finding a quiet moment in the garden turned out to be a problem, the technology wasn’t…

Regards

Martin

In the end I went with a Rode Link Lav, plugged in using a Rode VXLR+, which converts 48v XLR to plug in power. Bluetooth will not work, the only profile that supports high quality stereo audio has terrible low bitrate voice. Also tried a video shotgun mike, was terrible :)

I’ve taken to twitch to relieve some of the quarantine stress, kind of starting a podcast of sorts where I just talk about gear I have access to. The headset mic I was planning to use, unfortunately, seems to have suffered a crushing incident while in storage (haven’t used it in years) so I had to use my bluetooth headset mic, which made the audio sound like a bad zoom conference…

With that in mind, I’m looking for a good headset with headphones and mic. Any suggestions?

The first one was mostly done as a learning experience so I could refine my techniques. After I get the above settled, Ill pick another piece of gear and do another one.
