Server upgrade, mailman?

Hi -bar, I need to perform some server upgrades soon. This box is still running 14.04LTS :)

Before I dive deep into Mailman 3 on 18.04, I’d like to hear if email is still the preferred way, or if I should install Discourse or something. I like email (a lot), but I might be old fashioned. And Mailman and email deliverability is a bit of a PITA these days :(
