Thanks for the tips,

The battery still measures 3,06V. Ordered a new one, we'll see how this 
goes.

I checked the PSU (easy now the unit is open) and I measured 14,76VDC 
(from a 12V PSU?)

Used a know good PSU and I measure 12,25V, still the same behavior*.

I pushed all buttons to see if there are any 'stuck' but I don't think 
that is the case.

The caps I see on the PCB look alright. I might consider replacing them. 
(all trough hole components look pretty standard, I can do trough hole ;-))

* so the behavior, when switching on:
the led's of both LFO are continuously lit.
the back led of the LCD goes on.
After +/- 30sec. the os version is displayed over and over again.
