Well, when someone is constructing a model railway, the advice is to not 
make it deeper than what you can reach. If you can't reach it, or only 
with difficulty, it's too deep.

It's tempting to make it larger, so you can cram more stuff in, but it's 
rarely, if ever, a good idea.
