Yeah, Ive started to really get into FM.  Im rocking a Midibox SammichFM and to be honest, its best feature is the various Random buttons (All / Operators / Modulation / Envs / Wavetables / etc); 1 in 3 presses comes up with a complete gem of a sound which I can then pass off as being my own  :)

The gear used in that jam is so cheap, it's amazing what you could get started with nowadays.

 

Arturia Beatstep - new US $100.

Volca Bass - new US $110

Yamaha TX81Z - used US $80

MIDI patchbay for routing - used US $110 

 

The punch is the FM bass on the TX81Z. I'm starting to really adore that synth.
