It's a Grid controller. Or rather *the* original grid controller. 

The thing is: this Usv is not a connection to a computer, it's the A-type, that lets you connect a peripheral. 

In this case the module seems to be a powerful sequencer (something has to justify that 300$ price tag) that works even after the grid is disconnected. 

But using it, programming and playing, work without a computer whatsoever! 

I have a semi-neglected monome and think this module is quite exciting (albeit trop cher!)
