Oh, speaking of which -- I recently tried out a "Lap Axe" (sounds more painful than it is) -- something like this:

I only played if briefly, but I liked the sound (through a small pocket POD) and feel of it. it's tuned a bit differently (a minor third above standard), doesn't have a very long neck (only 14 frets or so), but plays and sounds nice. It's a bit pricey and maybe the actual brand "Traveler Guitar" might be better suited as a "real" guitar:

A friend of mine recently movied (!) onto a sailboat -- him, his wife and 8 year old daughter are planning to sail around the world for about 2 years -- and he bought himself a tiny traveler guitar. I thought it was really nice to always have and bring with you..;)
