Pet hate: people who don't know Latin.

The plural of "virus" is "viruses". In Latin, t's a word from the second
declension, meaning "acrid element" or "venom", like from snakes,
creatures or plants.

Words from the second declension generally are male (-us) or neuter
(-um, like "museum"). The plural of words ending in "-us" is "-i" (at
least, in the nominative inflection), whereas the nominative plural of a
word in "-um" is "-a": in Dutch, the Latin plural is used, so "musea"
instead of "museums".

If you take the word for "son", "filius", the plural is "filii". And
there you get your "-ii" ending. But it's "virus" and not "virius", so
the Latin plural is "viri" and not "virii". But the English plural is
"viruses".

The Quasimidi Sirius would have "Sirii" as the nominative plural.

That's all for tonight. Sleep well. :)
