My advice? De-normal everything. Decide on a standard of outputs on top/inputs on bottom and stick with it even if it means leaving channels unused. Keep a spreadsheet of all the connections, and keep it updated. Multi-channel snakes are your friend. I don't know why, but everything seems to have 8 jacks on it.
Oh, and don't hook up everything unless you really will use it.
