Last week I saw the show by massive attack v Adam Curtis, a massive video installation with alive soundtrack.
All very political and straight to the point. If you haven't heard of Adam Curtis, you could check out "all watched over by machines of loving grace", similar aesthetics.
The part that struck me the most was a realization that because art is free it can do and say anything it wants.
The corollary however, in our society is, that it has nearly zero impact on those matters it is trying to attack.
Donald trump couldn't care less if he's in a massive attack show, so why would be change anything about his life, his values or his hair?
The next piece we started working on last Monday is about Germany, Hungary, the eu and the situation for artists, jews, intellectuals, roma and others I Hungary after victor orban was elected with a 2/3 majority in 2010.
We are three Germans collaborating with an experimental electronic musician from Hungary, who's story we'll tell.
I used to work a lot with her, but since orban took over its impossible to find funding for our music which fidesz (orban's party) regards as something bordering on "degenerate art".
One of our working theories is that any democracy can be turned into a dictatorship within two electoral terms.
What would happen if orban had the means of the NSA available to him? What would happen if the USA would vote for a far right wing populist next time?
Our piece will be staged in Bonn, Düsseldorf, Köln and Münster in October, let me know if you'd like to see it...;)
We'll play live electronics over the Internet, all in all it will be a lecture-concert.
Kai
