The big issues I have had trouble finding a happy solution to are:
decent low end (for bass throbs / pads)
low profile enclosure
knob / switch based patching (with no lousy endless encoders)
predictability (can I recreate sounds live reasonably easily)
My current Noiselab minimodular would be almost perfect if it was about
5 or 6 centimetres shallower. I have never played with a MFOS soundlab
personally but my impression from vids is that what I have now sounds
better and is probably more predictable. The other logic chip based
stuff is not what I am looking for as I already have a synth like that
and it pretty much sucks for anything other than high end or solo noise
(it is especially mushy for low end sounds and unpredictable).
I have a Monotron Duo on order which I am hoping will be good enough
with my effects chain to tide me over for the next couple of gigs I have
lined up.
I generally will trade flexibility for predictability as long as the
core sound works.
Cheers
