Core Audio Internal Compression?

To end those discussions for good and all, which are rich of FUD and false information on other places.
I'm certainly not in a dilemma and I'm really astonished how many people, who, I thought should know, actually don't know!
And I'm _not_ talking about amateurs and kiddies!
The origin of this discussion comes from the fact that people "suddenly" experience distortion when using external audio interfaces
when running their patches.
But there's nothing more than speculation and incomplete/imprecise information going around.
Since you said it's there, I know you got a new MBP, what version/model is yours?
I was looking at Apple's developer manuals regarding Core Audio, I can't find anything there, which is good,
since I also think it's part of the audio device (i.e. driver).
But, alas, so far I couldn't find any definite statement from Apple where they talk about this feature.
cheers, m.
