On my pretty high spec-ed Dell machine, putting an SDD (Crucial M4-256 GB) as the main boot/OS drive, while has had many other benefits, did not bump the Win 7 "Windows Experience Index", which was always showing a 5.9 (out of 7.9) disk data transfer rate. I am guessing it's the Intel SATA controller on the motherboard. But regardless I've been very happy with the SDD experience as a whole. Did the same for my MBPro machine.
