iPad Question - iTunes sharing

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas..

So, we now have a iTouch and iPad and I have zero knowledge of Apple..

My Windows based iTunes is on a network share (Netgear Stora) and I want to
just point the iPad at this share.. Sure, I could just sync it but I don't
want to duplicate the 30Gb library just for the sake of it. Im not bothered
about not having access to my library when out of home Wifi range.

So, should I:

1) Try and get the iPad to see the Netgear store (Im thinking this is
my first choice??)

2) Subscribe to some Cloud service (assuming the iPad can then play my
iTunes library via the Cloud?) This would also give me anywhere access
providing I had WiFi..

3) Non of the above is possible and need to just do a conventional
iTunes sync..

Ive googled this stuff but for something so simple, there seem to be a lot
of confused people out there!!

Thanks for any pointers,
