Sometimes you have to be an asshole to get good things done.  Thats what I've learned from many people, including Steve Jobs.  I don't think it excuses his tyrannical ranting and vitriolic bluster sessions in the slightest - but some of what was involved in that energy definitely resulted in good things getting done for us all.  If he hadn't pointed out the difference between a square button and a round one, the sublime group complacency for mediocrity would have been more of a norm than it is today.  Inject a little poison, make the body stronger, but don't kill it.

Oh, absolutely.  Its up to the living to make sure the deeds of the dead are not forgotten, nor neglected, when the time comes for our kids to take over.
