Animoog + Eigienharp pico

I have to say, I really love the look of the eigen harp.

the pico is just too small, but the alpha is insanely high priced, I'd love one, but I'd use it 99% of the time for controlling MIDI, and I really don't want to take a laptop (OSX or other wise) to a gig.

I'm pretty sure you have to use their software no matter what you do, the hardware is essentially dumb and it's brains are in the software running on the computer (similar to manta and monome.) You can run a midi only set up and route the controller to other software, but I'm pretty sure there is no way around running their software as the server. I believe there is a new easier way to do this, someone wrote some scripts - not sure if you can see the wiki if not a user http://www.eigenlabs.com/wiki/1.3/Pico_MIDI_From_Scratch/ Things might get interesting for you once they release the software open source though.

Plus of course you get the touch strip and breath controller. So for instance I used to hook it into Massive and could set what ever parameters I wanted to each of these controls, including say different parameters for horizontal and vertical movement from what I remember.

I'm just wondering if the pico could come handy as a controller for live gigs - with the skewed pov that I don't play instruments :)

If I have it right, basically the previous version will go open source, then from 2.0 on will be a paid subscription for support and software releases. So something to consider.

To get the full level of expression you had to use their software and run your soft synths in that environment, and their software was so-so from an interface and reliability standpoint. It was really designed as an "instrument" for a musician so it's format is geared to that. Also the pico is almost a toy compared to the bigger units where things start to make more sense - would love to have an alpha :P
