I've put my iPad to use with a small USB hub, the Apple Camera kit adapter, and all of the Akai mini-controllers - knobs, sliders, keys.  Its a perfect unity.  If I need to, I can also just plug in a standard USB MIDI cable and hook things up to my DAW .. not that I ever do, because my iPad is a portable studio now of its own right, and I'm even considering ditching everything and going all-100% iPad.  Horizon is a great synth, Sunsyn too..
